"I started Treehouse after taking six months parental leave for the birth of our second child. I'd had a
successful career as an economist at the Bank of England, climbing through the ranks as I honed my analytical
skills in a demanding environment. I'd pivoted to become the Chief Data Officer, where I'd had a lot of fun leading
our transition to more innovative approaches to analytics.
But I'd reached a seniority
where I spent all my time on management and strategy and I'd lost touch with the more technical side of the job.
Babies sleep a lot, which gave me some time to get back into coding and to feel first hand how much the world had
moved on since I started out as a graduate. Cloud computing and large, open datasets put a power at
my fingertips that I wouldn't have dreamt of 20 years ago. And while you give up a lot of amazing colleagues and
support when you leave an organisation like the Bank of England, you gain untold freedom. The die was cast."
